about
For this composition, Soma put together "Legolas' Song" and "Imaginary Dance".
"Legolas' Song of the Sea" is a poem by JRR Tolkien, the author of "The Lord of the Rings". Lyudmila Smerkovich, a prominent singer-songwriter and an author of countless Tolkien-themed songs, better known in Russia's Tolkien fan community as Skadi, interpreted the poem and wrote the tune. She performs the song as a singer-songwriter.
Soma's own mandola and steel guitar player Steve Lacey-Marsden wrote a waltz entitled "Imaginary Dance".
Steve is on mandola, Andrew on clarinet, Oxana plays domra - a traditional Russian string instrument, which Oxana learnt in her Soviet music school. Sandi sprinkles it all with the magic of glockenspiel.

The original poem by JRR Tolkien:
Legolas' Song Of The Sea
To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years falling.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling,
Sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling,
In Eressëa, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people for ever!
