Soma’s own Andrew Daley wrote the music and lyrics to this ceremonial procession piece. The lyrics are in Latin, and they praise the sun as the source of our life and everything that is good. Steve designed and made a drone instrument, which comprises a fan and a string. This hand-made creation opens and closes the track.

Saluto Solis (Greet the Sun) has the most instruments out of all Soma’s recorded compositions. There are numerous drums. Oxana and Sandi play frame drums, and Steve – his mandola, as usual. Whereas Andrew tried his hand (pardon the pun) at a dozen others, including a medieval and a shamanic drum, as well as various percussion. Andrew also plays keyboard and jaw harp.

Steve, Andrew and Oxana sing this chant, with Oxana having been convinced to squeak the highest harmony as well.

Overall, Soma had great fun recording this piece, and it is a pity it was never performed live.
